BRIAN R. DEMSEY
Brian began his actuarial career in Buffalo, New York with Marsh & McLennan. He moved to California in 1977 and created Brian R Demsey + Associates, an actuarial services company, which was later acquired by Tillinghast. Following a stint as the Ernst & Young regional partner in charge of the actuarial, benefits and compensation practice, Brian created RemoteNet Corporation which specializes in building benefits portals.
Apart from business, Brian has been active in community activities having been on the boards of the Capistrano Unified School District, Beckman Laser Institute and Childrens Hospital at Mission. He is also a very active paddler having crossed the Catalina and Molokai channels and regularly tries new activities such as kiteboarding and piano playing.
T. LOUIS FILLIGER, FSA
T. Louis Filliger is directly responsible for actuarial and related services. Lou specializes in the design and pricing of retiree medical programs, for both public and private sector clients. He has written valuation systems to perform FAS 106 calculations, has testified as an expert witness on retiree medical issues, and has assisted in numerous retiree medical studies and PERS feasibility studies. He also provides the actuarial valuations and certifications required for school districts' self-funded health and welfare plans under California's AB 1200 and AB 3141 laws. Lou is a mathematics graduate of the University of Michigan, has been an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA since 1984, and became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1988. He is also a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He has over 25 years of combined actuarial experience in the insurance and pension industries.
Lou is an avid hiker and mountaineer. He has climbed Mt. Whitney each of the last two summers, but also enjoys climbing mountains with no names, no trails, and plenty of cactus. His hobbies also include classical piano, with a passion for Scriabin and Rachmaninoff, bodybuilding, and the spoken and written Spanish language.
ROXANA MIU
Ms. Miu is responsible for actuarial services and related retiree medical programs. She graduated with a Bachelor.s degree in Finance from San Diego State University. While attaining her degree, she also completed an internship within the finance services industry. Currently, she is in the process of attaining her certification as an enrolled actuary and intends to follow the course of study towards her Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries. She participates in all phases of the practice, including data collection, programming in Visual Basic, selection and implementation of actuarial assumptions, report writing, and client interface.
Roxana enjoys the outdoors. Her favorite outdoors activities are hiking, kayaking, skiing, mountain biking and running. She has participated in the Camp Pendleton mud run for the past two years. Her other hobbies are literature, poetry, and interior designing. For the first time last winter Roxana was nominated as one of the Poets of the Year by the International Library of Poetry.
